Mystic, Conn. (September 13, 2022) – Mystic Seaport Museum is excited to premier an event lineup that celebrates fall in true New England fashion. Across the 19 acres of our grounds, nestled along the Mystic River, enjoy a backdrop of orange, yellow and red during prime leaf-peeping season with a specially curated series of events that visitors of all ages can enjoy.
Programming highlights include:
9/11 Remembrance Event, September 11
In honor of September 11, the Museum will screen the film “Fireboats of 9/11” (66 min) in Treworgy Planetarium. In this film, visiting vessel and National Historic Landmark FIRE FIGHTER has a starring role in the FDNY Marine Unit response to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The day’s events include:
12 – 5 p.m. – Guided tours of FIRE FIGHTER
2 p.m. – Film screening of “Fireboats of 9/11” introduced by Charlie Ritchie, President of the Fireboat Fire Fighter Museum (Limited seating for film screening, first-come, first-served)
The film screening is free for members and included with Museum admission for non-members.
Antique Vehicle Show, By Land & By Sea, September 24
Join us at the 25th annual antique vehicle show, where the Museum expects approximately 100 pre-1932 vehicles lining the streets of our 19th-century seafaring village for a delightful day of camaraderie. In the afternoon enjoy a Grand Parade around the Village Green and take advantage of this Instagram worthy opportunity to capture motoring history up close and personal.
Riverfest, October 8 – 10
Create lasting memories while enjoying the fall foliage, and venture onto the river in a rowboat, sailboat, pedal boat, or captained boat. Kick back with some tasty brews and delicious food at our Riverfest Beer Garden at Spouter Tavern and enjoy live music all three days including the Mystic Folkways Stage presented by Westerly Sound on Sunday, October 9. See below for more information. Several fishing boats and their crews will be docking with us over the course of the weekend to meet visitors and talk about oyster farming and sustainable fishing.
Mystic Folkways, October 9
A new creative partnership dubbed “Mystic Folkways” between the Museum and regional events agency Westerly Sound will debut as part of the Museum’s 3-day Riverfest celebration. Mystic Folkways will take place on Sunday, October 9 and feature several national and regional acts. Scheduled to perform: James Maple, Karl Blau, Tim Easton, Nick Panken (Spirit Family Reunion), Wildflower, Ian Felice (Felice Brothers), the Cankickers and others. More information will be forthcoming.
Opening Weekend of Sargent, Whistler & Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano, October 15 – 16
Join us for the opening of this world class exhibition which brings to life the Venetian glass revival of the late nineteenth century and the artistic experimentation the city inspired for visiting artists. While here enjoy a Gondola ride on the Mystic River!
Halloween Happenings, October 22 – 31
Our Halloween events are visitor favorites, and this year is no exception. From pumpkin carving, to a spooky-ish and fun Jack-o-Lantern Walk through our historic village — complete with games, crafts, and live music — to our Community Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt on October 31.
