Sailing Programs

At the Museum’s Sailing Center, we strive to provide inclusive experiences to anyone who has ever wanted to get out on the water and sail. We take pride in being an institution at which all people, regardless of previous experience, can get out on the water, have fun, and hone their maritime skills.

If you’re an experienced sailor or racer looking to sharpen your ability, please join us. If you’re a relative novice curious about learning this fun and invigorating skill in one of the most inspiring environments imaginable, keep us in mind, too. A variety of sailing programs are offered for all ages from weekly lessons and camps to overnight programs. We’ll see you on the water!

Community Sailing Camps, Classes, and Race Series

The Sailing Center at Mystic Seaport Museum offers a full lineup of camps and classes for both kids and adults designed to build and refine sailing skills, all while nurturing the love of the water and our connection to the sea.

Schooner Brilliant Sailing Program

Learn to sail aboard our prize-winning 74-foot schooner, BRILLIANT, in one of the oldest sail education programs in the country. Adults and teens (ages 15-18) learn traditional nautical skills and what it means to be a shipmate.

Overnight Joseph Conrad Summer Sailing Camp

This unique overnight summer sailing camp has welcomed campers since 1949 aboard the JOSEPH CONRAD. Campers learn sailing skills and teamwork on traditional 9' Dyer Dhows, and share a camaraderie.

Dyer Dhow Fleet

The Mariner Training Program at Mystic Seaport Museum began in 1950 with six Dyer Dhows donated from local yacht clubs. Through the continued generosity of clubs and individuals, the Museum is now home to the largest active fleet of 9-foot Dyer Dhows in the world!

Financial Aid

Joseph Conrad Overnight Summer Sailing Camp and Community Sailing Scholarships

We are pleased to announce that we have scholarship funding available for our Community Sailing (ages 6-15) and Joseph Conrad Overnight Summer Sailing Camp (ages 8-15) summer, spring, and fall programs. Up to 100 percent financial aid is available depending upon need. To apply, complete the application here.
