Join us at Mystic Seaport Museum as we explore the universe through a series of events designed to engage space enthusiasts of all ages during World Space Week 2024.
September 26 | 7:00–8:30 p.m. | The Europa Clipper and the Search for Life
This October, NASA will launch its next flagship mission, Europa Clipper, to explore the habitability of Jupiter’s icy moon, Europa. Dr. Ingrid J. Daubar will talk about this exciting mission and share details about the spacecraft, Europa’s ice shell and the liquid water ocean beneath it, and the moon’s composition and geology. Dr. Daubar is a planetary scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and an Associate Professor (Research) of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences at Brown University. October 5 | 2:00–2:45 p.m. | Skyfire: A Discussion on Meteors, Asteroids, and Comets
Begin World Space Week with a talk by NASA Solar System Ambassador Michael Greene on the remnants of our solar system’s formation. Learn about the unique characteristics of asteroids, comets, and other celestial bodies. This event is included in Museum admission; registration is NOT required.
October 7 | 7:00–8:30 p.m. | Meteor Monday
Witness the Draconid Meteor Shower during an after-hours Treworgy Planetarium show. Begin with an orientation of the night sky inside the planetarium, followed by outdoor observation. Members $8 | Non-members $10
October 8 | 7:00 p.m. | Space Trivia Tuesday
How well do you know outer space? Test your space knowledge at our Space Trivia Night. Compete individually or in teams to answer space-related questions and win space-themed prizes. Members $8 | Non-members $10
October 13 | 2:00–3:00 p.m. and 5:00–6:00 p.m. | Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”
Conclude World Space Week with a performance of Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” by an eight-piece chamber ensemble. The Treworgy Planetarium dome will display historical images of the planets, creating an immersive experience through our solar system. Members $20 | Non-members $25
