Join us at Mystic Seaport Museum as we explore the galaxy through a series of events designed to engage space enthusiasts of all ages during World Space Week.
October 4 | 2:00–4:00 p.m. | Launching into World Space Week (MEMBERS ONLY)
Members are invited to join us as we kick off World Space Week 2026, a weeklong celebration of astronomy and space exploration. Throughout September—Member Appreciation Month—Members can purchase a model rocket kit and sign up in the Membership Building for an October 4 launch. These are the very rockets our Planetarium staff use with students. Build and decorate one together as a family, then bring it back on Sunday, October 4, the first day of World Space Week. We’ll help you launch your creation over the Mystic River, watch it glide back down to the water, and our Sailing Center staff will retrieve it for you to keep as a souvenir. It’s a voyage of discovery for the whole family!

Celebrate World Space Week with a night of space exploration for all ages. Hands-on craft stations bring NASA’s spacecrafts and vehicles to life, while planetarium shows journey to the frontier of the latest space missions. Weather permitting, step outside to glimpse Saturn—and its rings!—through the planetarium’s telescope in the autumn evening sky.

October 10 | 2:00 p.m. | 55 Years Later: Remembering Apollo 14
Close out World Space Week 2026 with us as NASA Solar System Ambassador Michael Greene takes us on a voyage back to 1971—to the mission that brought the Apollo program back to life after Apollo 13’s harrowing journey. Apollo 14 didn’t just reach the Moon’s surface; it reignited our sense of what was possible.
Michael will share well-known stories—like Alan Shepard famously hitting golf balls on the Moon—and the ones that surprise us—including how the oldest Earth rock ever discovered was found far from home, resting on our own natural satellite. And he’ll guide us through a truly unexpected connection: how astronaut Stuart Roosa carried tree seeds around the Moon, sparking the Apollo Moon Tree program, which has a fascinating modern-day tie to our very own Treworgy Planetarium.

October 10–11 | Sailing by the Stars: A Navigation Experience Aboard Schooner BRILLIANT
Understand celestial navigation as a concept, but never practiced it? Here’s your chance to change that. Join us aboard the schooner Brilliant for a one-of-kind voyage led by Brian Koehler, Associate Director of the Planetarium. Before we set sail on this overnight trip, gather ashore with our Planetarium staff for an overview of navigation skills. As night falls, we’ll get underway to put those skills to use. Explore, discover, sail with us!
